Ashley Sinclair is a photographer based in Philadelphia, PA and New York. She's recently graduated from St. John's University for a bachelor's degree in Photography and graduated from International Center of Photography.
I use my images as an open diary. My work reflects on the roots of my own being as well as the joys that I have in life. My work shows how balanced each project explores my idea, whether they are fast with bright colors and fast motion to calming with neutral colors and slow pace movements. What motivated me to do this work answers the never-ending question about this mysterious figure that I call my grandmother, who is a strong foundation to my immediate family. There were always questions about what was her foundation and how did that impact her to be the person that she is today.
My work connects me to the people that hold close and dear to me, who are my friends and family. With being in their environment, I get to have that intimate relationship for them to be comfortable with me and the camera. Especially with my grandmother, who hates being in front of the camera. I was always told that it’s all about being patient with your subjects. With my work being exhibited, it’s a way to give my audience a way to let them take a glimpse of my life, to explore through this open diary that I call my work.
